Cultural Quarter Weekly Round-Up
Traffic Offences – Narborough Road North PCSOs 6187 and 6608 were on patrol when a vehicle was sighted stationary in a live lane, attempting to turn right instead of using the filter lane. The vehicle was stopped, and checks revealed the driver had been using an international licence for nearly 10 years without passing a UK driving test, invalidating her insurance. The vehicle was seized under S.165 for no licence and no insurance.
Proactive Patrols – Granby Street / Halford Street PC Proctor, PCSO Brad and PCSO Becs had a busy shift. While on patrol on Granby Street, they observed a vehicle driving erratically which was stopped on Halford Street. Checks confirmed the driver was not insured, and the vehicle was seized. Shortly after, a second vehicle aroused suspicion nearby. Following checks, this driver was also found to be uninsured, resulting in a second seizure under S.165.
Illegal E-Bikes Seized PCSO Brad and PC Proctor stopped two e-bikes on Granby Street. Both were found to be illegal as they were throttle-powered and exceeded legal speed limits. These types of bikes pose a significant risk to public safety.
Safeguarding Work PCSO Becs attended two incidents involving vulnerable individuals. Both were safeguarded appropriately and will receive ongoing support.
Shoplifting – Prolific Offender PC Carpenter has been working with Greggs regarding a prolific shoplifter. The male has been charged with multiple theft offences, and an application for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) is in progress to restrict further offending.
Concern for Animal Welfare PC Proctor assisted the city response team with concerns for a dog. Entry was gained to a property, and a welfare check confirmed the dog was safe.
Robbery Arrests – Gallowtree Gate PS Cross responded to a report of a robbery involving males in possession of a machete. Upon police arrival, two suspects fled. PS Cross, supported by PC Page-Brown, detained one male who was found in possession of a machete. The second male made off but was located after a foot chase by PCSO Bannatyne, who found him hiding on a rooftop. Both males were arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
Wanted Offender Arrested PC Proctor encountered a male wanted for shop theft. Further checks revealed he was also subject to recall to prison. He has been returned to custody to continue serving his sentence.
Community Engagement – Orton Square PC Stewart and PCSO 6571 attended an event at Orton Square, engaging with local businesses and members of the public.
Joint Agency Response – Charles Street PC Stewart and PCSO Allured attended a concern for welfare after reports of running taps at a property. Working alongside Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, entry was gained and fortunately no one was found inside.
Partnership Work PC Wilson has attended several partnership meetings this week, including at Dover House and with housing agencies, continuing to support collaborative problem-solving in the area.
PCSO Bannatyne and PCSO Brad was at the clock tower engaging with members of the public and supporting with the early night time economy and offering advice about the Ask Angela campaign
